Sin never shows you the hook; it only shows you the bait.
One of the most terrifying warnings in the Bible is found in Hebrews 3. It warns us about the "deceitfulness of sin" and how quickly it can harden a believer's heart.
As Matthew Henry famously wrote: "Sin has so many ways and colors that we need more eyes than our own." You cannot trust your own assessment of yourself because sin uses trickery and illusion. It presents itself as freedom, right up until the cage locks.
