The Faith of the Patriarchs

Abraham's faith was not passive or emotional. It was active, costly, and completely reorganized around God's call. He lived in tents in the very land God had promised him because he was not waiting for something built by human hands. He was waiting for an eternal city whose architect and builder is God Himself. Sarah trusted God's faithfulness even when biology made the promise seem impossible. Joseph made his faith his own in the middle of slavery, false accusation, and years of isolation. The patriarchs lived and died without seeing the full realization of God's promises, yet God was not ashamed to be called their God. We are pilgrims in a foreign land, and the sooner we stop trying to make this world our home, the more clearly we can live for what actually lasts. Faith is not a feeling. It is a calculated, obedient trust in a God who has never broken a promise.
